Information About the Arkansas Lime Company and the Collection

 The Arkansas Lime Company was founded near Cushman (Independence County), Arkansas in 1906 as the Young Lime Company and became the Case-Young Lime Company the following year.  Under the control of father and son, George and Junius Case, the company was incorporated in 1910 as the Arkansas Lime Company.  Upon the recommendation of mining engineer George Weigart, in 1924 the firm relocated to its present site west of Batesville at Limedale, and the company’s name was changed once again to Batesville White Lime Company.  During the depression of the 1930s the company came under the control of non-local investors; in 1962 the Batesville White Lime Company became a subsidiary of Rangaire Corporation of Texas and was merged with two other local lime companies.  Today (in 2002) the firm is known as the Arkansas Lime Company and is a subsidiary of United States Lime and Materials of Dallas, Texas.

 The collection contains a variety of materials (photographs, newspaper clippings, maps, receipts, and historical and chronological notes) relating to the history of the Arkansas Lime Company, 1906-1990s.  Most of the materials are photocopies of originals in the possession of Harvey Phillips.  Nancy S. Griffith processed the collection in 1992, and Kim Halpain and Judy Blackwell completed detailed indexing and the website finding aid in 2002.  The collection is open for research.
