Information About John P. Morrow and the Collection 

John P. Morrow Sr. (1877-1965) was a prominent citizen, merchant, and planter in Batesville throughout the first two-thirds of the 20^th century.  An 1896 graduate of Lyon (then Arkansas) College, Morrow served his alma mater as trustee for almost four decades and was president of the board during the last nine years of his life.  Morrow’s son, John P., Jr. (1907-1978), was a 1928 graduate of Arkansas College and also served many years on the board of trustees. 

The John P. Morrow Papers contain a variety of items (newspaper clippings, correspondence, bulletins, and legal papers) relating primarily to the college during the period from 1926 to 1971.  (Note:  Many of the papers originally contained in the John P. Morrow Collection have been dispersed to other collections.) 

The collection was processed in 1987 by Drew Beisswenger and Tina De Lashmit; Nancy S. Griffith dispersed some of the records contained in the collection to other collections.  In 2002 Kim Halpain and Judy Blackwell completed detailed indexing and the website finding aid.  Portions of the collection are classified as confidential and are available for research only with the permission of the Regional Studies Center director.
