Information About the Presbyterian Church and the Collection

The First Presbyterian Church of Batesville, Arkansas was established in 1842 and has functioned continuously since that date.  (Note:  For more information on the history of the congregation see Virginia Fitzhugh Jeffery and Lucy Jeffery Yeager, A Rich and Lasting Blessing:  A 150 Year History of the First Presbyterian Church of Batesville, Arkansas.)

The collection contains the original ledger book of the First Presbyterian Church, which includes a handwritten history of the congregation, sketches of some members, and records of membership for the years 1842 to 1935.  The collection was processed by Gene Hyde in 1998, and the website finding aid was completed by Brooks Blevins and Judy Blackwell in 2002.  The collection is open for research.
