Information About the Collection 

The Smithee Papers consist of four letters and other items once belonging to Margaret Smithee of Jackson County, Arkansas, great grandmother of the donor.  Among the other items are two oaths of allegiance to the U.S. government signed by Richard Smithee, one dated 1862 and the other 1864. 

The collection was processed by Nancy S. Griffith in 1992; detailed indexing and website finding aid were completed by Kim Halpain and Judy Blackwell in 2002.  The collection is open for research.
