Jimmy Driftwood: “. . . from Chicago. She is Mrs. George Armstrong. You once had a George Armstrong around Mountain View. Anybody remember? Well, Mrs. George Armstrong is coming out tonight to play the dulcimer for Rome Wade (?). Gerry Armstrong. Good! George wants to play, too.”
Mrs. Armstrong: "George is going to sing with me."
Mr. Armstrong: "Both of these microphones work, Jimmy? Now later on I'm going to play the bagpipes."
Dr. Wolf: “One gonna sing and one play?”
Mrs. Armstrong: “We both sing.”
Mr. Armstrong: “Now the dulcimer is kind of like a string bagpipe, really. It just has three strings. This dulcimer comes from North Carolina. It was made by a friend of ours, Frank . . . So we’re going to do a song from North Carolina, but it’s called, ‘Once I Lived in Old Virginny, North Carolina Was My Home.’”

Once I lived in old Virginny;
North Carolina was my home.
There I courted a handsome lady.
Oh, I called her my own.

Her hair was yellow, and her eyes were sparkling,
And her cheeks were a diamond red.
On her breast she wore a white lily.
Oh, the tears that I have shed.

Father says that I must not marry--
Mother says it would never do--
But oh, kind miss, if you are willing,
I will ride away with you.

When I’m asleep, I am dreaming about you.
When I’m awake, I know no rest.
Every moment seems like an hour--
Oh, what a pain lies in my breast.

Must I go to old Virginny,
Where for your sake, must I die?
Must I go so brokenhearted,
Oh, my darling, say don't cry.

Once I lived in old Virginny;
North Carolina was my home.
There I courted a handsome lady.
Oh, I called her my own.
