My heart is broken; I'm in sorrow,
Thinking of the one I love.
I know that I shall ne'er more see him
'Til we meet in Heaven above.

Chorus: Then bury me beneath the willow,
Beneath the weeping willow tree,
And then he'll know that I am sleeping,
And perhaps he'll weep for me.

They told me that he did not love me,
But how could I believe it true?
Until an angel whispered softly,
"He will prove untrue to you."

(Chorus)

Tomorrow was our wedding day.
God only knows, oh, where is he?
He's gone away to love another,
And he cares no more for me.

(Chorus)

(Dr. Wolf: "Yeah. Where'd you learn that?"
Mrs. Apple: "I don't remember who I learned it from. I learned this also when I was about 12 or 13 years old, and it was . . . Everybody in this part of the country knew the old song, and I just learned it from some of my school friends, but I don't know which one.")
