In the world's mighty gallery of pictures
Are scenes that are painted from life.
There's pictures of joy and of beauty;
There's pictures of peace and of strife.

Pictures of youth and of beauty,
Old age, and blushing young bride.
All hang on the wall, but the saddest of all
Is a picture from life's other side.

Chorus: 'Tis a picture from life's other side;
Someone fell by the way.
A life that's gone out with the tide,
That might have been happy one day.
Some poor old mother at home,
Watching and waiting alone,
Longing to hear from a loved one so dear;
'Tis a picture from life's other side.

The first is a scene of two brothers
Whose paths in different ways led.
One was in luxury living;
The other one begged for his bread.
One night they met on the highway.
"Your money, your life," the thief cried.
He took with his knife his own brother's life;
'Tis a picture from life's other side.

(Chorus)
