I'm just a lonely cowboy,
With a heart so brave and true,
And learned to love a maiden
With eyes of heaven's own blue.

And they learned to love each other
And named their wedding day,
'Til a quarrel came between them,
And Jackie rode away.

Chorus: Your sweetheart waits for you, Jack.
Your sweetheart waits for you
Out on the lonely prairie,
Where the skies are always blue.

They learned to love . . .

(Mr. Ash: "No, see; now you see, we made a mistake already.")

He joined a band of cowboys
And tried to forget her name.
Out on the lonely prairie,
She tried to do the same.

One night when work was finished,
Just at the close of day,
They said, "Oh, sing a song, Jack.
'Twill drive the cares away."

When Jack began his singing,
His mind, it wandered back,
And he sang of a lovely maiden
Who waited for her Jack.

(Chorus)

Jack left the camp next morning,
Breathing his sweetheart's name.
And said . . .
"I'm going back to ask forgiveness,
For I know I am to blame."

But when he reached the prairie,
He found a newmade mound,
And his friends all sadly told him
They had lain his loved one down.

(Chorus)
