Old Dan Tucker came to town,
A-swinging the ladies all around,
First to the right and then to the left,
And then to the one that you love best.
Out of the way for Old Dan Tucker.
He's too late to get his supper.
Supper's o'er and the dishes washed,
Nothing left but a piece of squash.

Old Dan Tucker, he got drunk,
He fell in the fire and he kicked out a chunk.
A coal of fire got in the old boy's shoe,
And laws-a-mercy, how the ashes flew.
Clean out of the road for Old Dan Tucker.
It's too late to get his supper.
Supper's o'er and the dishes cooked,
And Old Dan Tucker stands there looking.

Old Dan Tucker went to town,
A-swinging the ladies all around.
Combed his hair with a wagon wheel,
And he died with a toothache in his heel.
Clean out of the road for Old Dan Tucker.
He's too late to get his supper.
Supper's o'er and the dishes washed,
Nothing left but a piece of squash.

Face first to the right
And then to the left,
And then to the gal that you love best.
Clean out of the road for Old Dan Tucker.
He's too late to get his supper.
Supper's o'er and the dishes cooked,
And Old Dan Tucker sitting there looking.

(Mr. Ash: "There's just a boy and a girl. First to the right and then to the left, and then to the one that you love best. There's four couples, and they, all of them-they can be a whole lot of couples-and they go in a circle, and when he says, "First to the right and then to the left" after each verse, then they do this, and clear on around until every couple has done the same operation, and then that would be the end.")
