Up and down the Mississippi,
The roads are rough and rocky.
Oh, give to me your pretty white maid,
And take away your darky.
Rolly, rolly, rolly, rolly,
Rolly, rolly, rolly.
Rolly, rolly, rolly, rolly,
Rolly, rolly, rolly.

Up and down the Mississippi . . .

It's a repetition of it each time.

(Mrs. Ash: "A couple line up in pairs, one behind the other, with one person extra in front. And when they say, take away your pretty white maid. . . give to me your pretty white maid and take away your darky, why, he steals the one that he's got on the last couple and that man has to go up in front. And the first couple in front steps through to the back and then they start all over again. And that's the end of that game.")
