The fire may freeze in the furnace,
The rocks may melt in the sun.
Your beauty, your beauty, my fair little miss,
You beauty has conquered me.

You told me once you loved me,
And you would marry some day,
But now you say you love another,
And will not marry me.

It was down in yonders lone valley,
Where me and my true love did meet.
Three bottles of my dearest wine--
'Twas there I give her a treat.

I drew my knife and I killed her.
I thought it would never be known,
But the name that's written on yonder tombstone
Has caused me to wander alone.

I wish I was ten thousand miles
Out on some tyrant's sea.
I wish I was so far away,
Where the cannons loudly roar.
