Oh, don't you hear that lonely turtledove;
It mourns for you and me.
She mourns all day,
She mourns all night;
Oh, she mourns for you and me.
Oh, who will shoe my pretty little feet,
Oh, who will glove my hand,
And who will kiss my ruby, ruby lips
While you have gone so far away?

You mother shall shoe your pretty little feet,
Your father shall glove your hand,
And I will kiss your ruby, ruby lips
When I return to you, I pray.

And when you hear that lonely turtledove,
It will mourn for you and me.
It will mourn all day,
It will mourn all night,
'Til I return to you.

(Mrs. Daugherty, laughing: "Now, wasn't that pretty?")
