Sister, in that rosewood casket,
Lying there upon the stand,
Is a package of false letters
Written by a treasure hand.

Will you get them for me, Sister?
Read them o'er and o'er to me?
For ofttimes I've tried to read them,
But for tears I could not see.

Now you've brought them all, dear Sister.
Read them o'er and o'er to me,
For ofttimes I've tried to read them,
But for tears I could not see.

Now you've read them all, dear Sister.
Place them all in one little box,
Though the little ring he gave me
Never from my finger shall part.

When I'm dead, oh Sister darling,
And a shroud around me is wound,
And a little bed is ready
In some lonely graveyard yon.

Do not weep for me, dear Sister,
Do not weep when I'm gone.
I'll be asleep to wake with Jesus.
Oh, dear Sister, do not weep.
