(Comment by Mr. Detherow: "This is called 'Old Jim Lane.' There's a girl that sets in a chair by herself while they all march around her, single file, and they sing.")

There sets a young lady all in this chair,
A-mourning the loss of her own true love.
It has been said that she was slain
All in the wars of Old Jim Lane.

Oh, no, 'tis not so;
She's come back to be my beau.
Oh, no, cannot be;
She's come back to marry me.
Oh, no cannot be;
She's come back to marry me.

(Mr. Detherow: "And then the boy sits down and they all march around.")

Here sits a young man all in this chair,
A-mourning the loss of his own true love.
It has been said that he was slain
All in the wars of Old Jim Lane.

Oh, no, 'tis not so;
He's come back to be my beau.
Oh, no, cannot be;
He's come back to marry me.

(Mr. Detherow: "They all dance around when they're singing that, and while they're sitting in the center, all dance around the ring.")
