(Mr. Detherow: "This is another song for children.")

Way down south, Lou Tesky had a nigger,
Big as this child, perhaps a little bigger.
Old Zippy Coon, the folks do call him;
If I ever run across him, I mean for to maul him.

I started out early one morning coonin';
Hadn't went far 'til I seen old Zip a-comin'.
I pulled off my coat, laid down my ammunition.
"Say, Colonel Poppy, I'll cool your ambition."

We fought there for about a half a day,
'Til we thought it was time to quit it.
Looked around our heads, and, gosh, they was missin'!
He'd bit off my head, and I'd swallowed his'n.
