Will you hear my lonesome story?
All my friends are dead and gone.
I was left in this world to wander,
A poor orphan left alone.

Brother I have none, nor sister;
I am left here all alone
In this gray world of sorrow,
A poor orphan left alone.

Mother said to me while dying,
And her breath was almost gone,
"Dearest daughter, you will soon be
A poor orphan left alone.

"Take this Bible to your closet;
Read and pray both night and day.
Seek protection in your savior,
While an orphan here you stay."

Oft I wander through the churchyard,
Praying for the time to come
When with Mother I'll be buried
And no more be left alone.
