The raccoon tail is ringed all around;
The possum tail is bare.
The rabbit's got no tail at all,
But a little bitty bunch of hair.

Chorus: Getting out of the way of the Federals, boys,
And getting out of the way of the Federals, boys,
Getting out of the way of the Federals, boys,
And I hardly think it fair.

The raccoon, he's a-chopping wood,
The possum, he's a-hauling,
Rabbit's in the dining room,
A-cooking for the balling.

(Chorus)

Possum up a 'simmon tree,
The raccoon on the ground.
The raccoon says, "You son of a gun,
Throw them 'simmons down."

(Chorus)
