Three little niggers a-lying in a bed,
Heels cracked open like shortenin' bread.

Chorus: How about your shortenin', shortenin',
How about your shortenin' bread?

One turned white, and one turned red;
Momma thought they sure was dead.
Sent for the doctor, and the doctor said,
"Feed them little niggers shortenin' bread."

(Chorus)

Went to the kitchen and lifted up the lid,
Filled my pockets with shortenin' bread.
Stole the skillet, stole the lid,
Stole the gal a-makin' shortenin' bread.

(Chorus)
