(Mr. Detherow: "I'm going to sing, "Sugar-o-Tea." In this play the girls and boys lines up in front of one another and they exchange partners and swing.)

Too late for the sugar-o tea,
Too late for the candy-o,
Too late for the sugar-o tea,
Too late for the candy-o.

You turn down that sugar-o tea;
I'll turn down the candy-o;
You turn down that sugar-o tea,
And I'll turn down the candy-o.
(Stanza repeated)

You run away with the sugar-o tea;
I'll run away with the candy-o;
You run away with the sugar-o tea,
And I'll run away with the candy-o.
(Stanza repeated)

(Mr. Detherow: "I'll further explain this sugar-o tea. The girls and the boys lines up facing one another about four, five feet apart, and the first couple that went in leads the girl up to the hall. They call that, sings, "Too late for the sugar-o teas." They leads twice, up and back twice, slowly. Then the boy begins to swing the girl at the far end. And the girl swings the boys at, down at the end of the line. And then they go back and swing in the middle, and they sing. They keep repeating that 'till they're all swung down and then they all run away, and they repeat, "You turn down the sugar-o tea, and I'll turn down the candy," 'til it's all . . . repeat it 'til they're through.")
