One evening so late as I rambled
On the banks of a clear pearly stream,
And as I sit down among the primroses,
Quietly I fell into a dream.

I dreamed that I saw a fair maiden,
Whose equals I never saw before.
She sighed for the fate of her nation,
That sailed along Erin's green shore.

Her cheeks were like two blooming roses,
Her teeth like the ivory so white.
Her eyes were like two sparkling diamonds
Or the stars on a cold winter night.

I up and addressed this fair maiden:
"My jewel, come tell me your name.
You're here in the midst of all dangers,
Or I would not have asked you the same."

"I'm the daughter of Donny O'Connell,
And from England I just lately sailed o'er.
I've come to warn my brethren
That dwell along Erin's green shore."

(Dr. Wolf: "What's the name of that?"
Mr. Ferrell: "You name it. I don't know."
Dr. Wolf: "What do you call it."
Mr. Ferrell: "Do we call it? I don't guess we even call it."
Dr. Wolf: "Well, the second one way . . . The one just before this you call the 'Nightingale Song'."
Mr. Ferrell: "That's what I call it."
Dr. Wolf: "And what do you call that short one you sang?"
Mr. Ferrell: "'Fishermaids' is what it's called."
Dr. Wolf: "'Fishermaids'?"
Mr. Ferrell: "Um hm."
Dr. Wolf: "The other one is the 'Hoodling Song'."
Mr. Ferrell: "That's 'Hoodling'.")
