Come, all you jolly comrades,
Wherever you may be,
And listen to my story,
And shun bad company.

My home was in Pennsylvania,
Among those beautiful hills.
A vision of my birthplace
Is in my memory still.

I did not like my comrades,
I did not like my home,
I had a mind for rambling,
So far away did roam.

(Spoken comment by Mr. Harvell: "Is that enough? All right.")

I said goodbye to loved ones,
I said goodbye to all.
I landed in Chicago,
The very depths of hell.

'Twas there I took to drinking,
To sinning both day and night;
And in her snow white bosom,
Those words my mother did say:

"It's God protect my darling;
Oh, God protect my boy,
And keep him from all danger
Throughout his manhood joy."

(Spoken comment by Mr. Harvell: "That's all of that except . . .")

But now I'm on the scaffold;
My time, it isn't long.
You may forget the singer;
Pray don't forget the song.
