A rich Irish lady,
And noble she dwelled,
Her riches and beauty
No tongue could tell.
A rich merchant sought her;
From London he came,
Courting this young lady,
Called Sally by name.

"Oh Sally, oh Sally,
Sally Sailsworth," says he.
"Do you remember
How you once treated me?
You laughed at my courtship,
Denied me with scorn.
And now I'll reward you
For what's past and gone."

"Oh Sally, oh Sally,
Sally Sailsworth," says he.
"I'm afraid that our courtship
Will never agree,
Unless all your hatred
Just turn into love,
We'll never get married,
By the powers above."

"No sir, I don't hate you,
Nor no other man,
But say that I love you
Is more than I can.
I think it's full time, sir,
You would end your discourse,
For never will I marry you,
Unless I am forced."

Full six months had passed,
Had scarcely gone by,
When this young lady was taken
Unto her bedside.
She was wounded with love,
But knew not for why
'Til she sent for this young man
Whom once she denied.

"Oh say, am I the doctor
Whom you sent for?
Or am I the young man
Whom you love so dear?"
"Yes, sir, you're the doctor
Can kill or can cure,
And without your assistance,
I am ruined, I am sure."

"Oh Sally, oh Sally,
Sally Sailsworth," says he.
"Don't you remember
How you once treated me?
You laughed at my courtship,
Denied me with scorn,
And now I'll reward you
For what's past and gone."

"For what's past and gone, love,
Forget and forgive,
And grant me in this world
Some longer to live."
"Oh no, I won't, Sally,
'Til the great judgment day.
I'll dance o'er your grave, love,
When you're cold in the clay."

She taken off a diamond ring,
All diamonds, gold, three.
Said, "Take these, noble sweetheart,
While dancing o'er me,
And when you're through dancing
Over Sally, your queen,
Then flee from your country,
Nevermore to be seen."
