I once did love with a fond affection,
But oh, that boy, he proved untrue.
That dark-head boy was my redemption,
But a blonde-head girl he did pursue.

You may go and leave me if you wish to.
Don't ever let me cross your mind,
For in your heart you love another,
And your love is no longer mine.

On many a night, with you I've rambled--
The happiest hours with you I spent.
I thought your love was mine forever,
But now I find it all in vain . . . relent.

On many a night, while you lie sleeping,
Dreaming of some sweet repose,
While I, poor girl, all brokenhearted,
Lie listening to the wind that blows.

You may take this ring from off my finger.
There's just three things I ask of you:
My shroud, my coffin, and my grave;
And when I'm dead and in my coffin,
Please kiss the girl that you betrayed.
