Young Sam came out in Texas, A cowboy for to be. A kinder-hearted fellow You'd scarcely ever see. Sam used to deal in race stock, One called the Denton mare. He matched her in scrub races, And carried her to the fair. Sam always coined good money; He spent it very free. Sam always drank good liquor, Wherever he might be. (Comment by Mrs. Peel: "Now, I don't know what comes next.") Sam left the Collins ranch In the merry month of May With a herd of Texas cattle, The Black Hills for to see. He sold out in Carson City, And all got on a spree. A tougher set of cowboys, You'd scarcely ever see. (Comment by Mrs. Peel: "That's enough for him to get the tune.")
