Dick and John started to the rag,
Dick . . . was reared back on his old poor nag.
John planned, and Dick, he laughed.
Said, "Get a side of bacon, I'll keep the biggest half."

When they got there, was late in the night,
The meat was in a smokehouse, locked up tight.
. . . had a lock that he thought wouldn’t break,
But it didn't keep the bacon from the . . .

There’s a waltzing couple out on the floor.
John broke the lock to the smokehouse door,
And John stayed, and the time would come.
Dick took the bacon and they made a home run.

Started down the road in a terrible rush.
Dick said to John, “Better take to the brush.”
John said to Dick, “We’d better keep still.
And hide it in the bluff on the . . . hill.”

Talk about a hiding place which would suit,
Down an old . . . field on an old big root.
"We’ll take it to the bluff which is higher from the ground,
Thirty pounds of bacon’s worth twenty cents a pound."

John . . . in a very short time,
Said to Dick, ". . . committed a crime
That everybody knows . . .
We ought to go to Jefferson and wear the striped clothes.
