(Mr. Fisher: “You have another song written here called, ‘I Met a Girl in Detroit City.’"
Mr. Mize: "Yeah. I'll sing that."
Mr. Fisher: "What made you write that one?”
Mr. Mize: “Well, there was a man in Portland, Oregon, that was . . . He had some trouble. So there was a man that I used to know that --he was a lawyer--and this man . . . He had told a story to me. It’s been years, several years ago. I was a boy when he was the lawyer. So I thought of this, thought this all over. Along in ‘64 I wrote this one, and I’ll sing it, hoping it’ll be a good song.” Mr. Fisher: "Oh, yes.")

I met a girl in Detroit City,
And her name I will not tell,
For the crime I have committed,
I’ll have to tell my love farewell.

I love this girl too much to imagine
But her love I cannot share.
For the crime that I committed,
Now I’m sentenced to the chair.

My little dear, I know I love you,
But my moments are not long,
But just . . . my little darling,
That sweet Heaven will be your home.

My little dear, meet me in Heaven.
I made peace with God to make Heaven my home.
But my love, you may forget me,
But my dear, don’t forget my song.

My little dear, I’m bound to leave you,
For I am sentenced here to die,
And this is my very last moment.
I’ll say to you my last goodbye.
