Edgar Murphy and myself
Used to have a time
Till Edgar Murphy took the old . . .
And he thought he was a-dying.

Edgar Murphy took the toothache,
And thought he would go,
Go and see the dentist
For the tooth that pained him so.

When he got to the dentist's chair,
He wasn't quite so bold;
He wouldn't open up his mouth
So the dentist could get a-hold.

Well, the dentist said to the office boy,
"Go get a great long pin.
You place it underneath his chair,
When I wink, you job it in."

He winked; he jobbed;
. . . with a jar,
And Murphy said he never knew
That roots run down so far.

Edgar Murphy and myself
Went a-fishing in the bay,
And of course he takes some booze along,
For it was a chilly day.

And every fish that he would catch,
A drink of booze he'd take,
Till Murphy got his feet tangled up,
And he fell into the lake.

I looked around for a board or plank,
But none could be found
I spied an . . . bar
A-lying on the ground.

I picked it up and I threw it in,
Never will forget--
He reached both hands and he grabbed it tight,
And I guess he's got it yet.
