(Spoken annotation by Wolf: "Mrs. J. Rich sings a snatch from a steamboat song, which she learned from her father, called, 'Down the River.'")

The river is up, the channel is deep,
The wind blows steady and strong.
The splash of the oar, the measure we keep
To row the old boat along.

Down the river, down the river, down the Ohio.

Also found in Randolph, Vol. III, #592, "Down the River."
