Green gravel, green gravel,
The grass is so green.
There's a pretty fair maiden,
And ashamed to be seen.

Oh, maiden, oh, maiden,
Your lover is dead.
He wrote you a letter,
So turn your head.

(Mrs. Riddle: "The girls and boys all form a ring, holding hands, and they face toward the center of the ring. And when they get to this, where they tell us to turn our heads, one girl, or one boy, whoever's name is called, turns his head. And they do that until they get all the way around. And then, I don't remember what we did.")
