Maiden Ruth came to town
Just to see Uncle John.
Maiden Ruth wore a stylish gown
Up and down the streets so fine.
Maiden Ruth came to town
Just to see Uncle John.
Everybody knew that she was pleased
By the way she'd say:

Chorus: "Oh, Uncle John, isn't it nice in Memphis?
Oh, Uncle John, here I will remain.
Oh, Uncle John, now that I've seen the city,
Life in the country's awfully slow;
I'll never go home again."

Uncle said, "Now, come along, Ruth."
"Never mind," Ruth replied.
"I must kiss that pretty man in blue,"
So she did, then cry:

(Chorus)
