Early one morning, the weather being fair,
The old woman and the daughter
Stepped out to take the air.
The daughter to her mother,
Head begin to bow.

Chorus: "I'm sixteen, and if you didst allow,
I must and shall get married,
For the fit's come on me now."

"Oh, whistle, daughter, whistle,
And you shall have a cow."
"I cannot whistle, Mother,
You never learnt me how."

(Chorus)

"Oh, whistle, daughter, whistle;
You shall have a sheep."
"I cannot whistle, Mother,
And neither can I sleep."

(Chorus)

"Oh, whistle, daughter, whistle,
And you shall have a man."
(whistles)
"Very best I can."

(Chorus)
