(Mrs. Vaughan: “This is a little game we used to play years ago when I was a little girl. We used to play it in the schoolroom sometimes in the morning.”)

Thus the farmer sows his seed,
Thus he stands and takes his ease.
Stamps his foot, claps his hands,
And turns around to view the land.
Oats, peas, beans, and barley grows.
Oats, peas, beans, and barley grows.
You don’t, I don’t, nobody knows,
How oats, peas, beans and barley grows.

(Comment by Mrs. Vaughan: “And we would stamp our foot and clap our hands as we would sing that, and then sow the little seed, and we thought it was quite a good game.”)
